Valentine Table Topper

I'm thankful to be sewing again in 2018 and working on a Valentine Table Topper. The fabrics are mostly from the Moda Sweetness Collection:

Picture 2 of 2

The table runner is featured on the cover of the Winter Vol 2 Issue 1 of the Missouri Star Block Idea Book.

I have completed the four hearts for the center of the topper.

As you saw above, my topper isn't just red and white like the one on the cover. My initial plan was for red and white fabrics but when I saw the aqua and red Moda valentine fabrics, I knew they were going home with me. More next time!

Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

Christmas Quilt - finished and delivered

I finished my Christmas quilt just in time for Christmas. Here it is a pic of it on my king size bed before I wrapped it up to go under the tree.

I worked on the quilt for several months and made a couple of post during my progress.  The colors aren't your typical Christmas colors.

The quilt is a Christmas gift for my daughter. She is holding the quilt for a quick picture below.

She loved the quilt and especially the colors. I am thankful I was able to make this special quilt for my daughter.

Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

Progress On the Christmas Quilt

I finished sewing the strips for my Christmas quilt.

Most of the strips have been added to the star blocks.

Here's a completed block.

There are 15 star blocks in the quilt plus 15 four patch blocks. I hope to start on the four patch blocks in a day or so. Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

Sunburst Pattern on A 100 Year Old Quilt

We recently visited the Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. As we approached the Gladie Visitor Center, I saw an old barn with a quilt pattern square near the top of the barn. I love quilt barns so I snapped a few pics of the barn.

We went in the Gladie Visitor Center and what a pleasant surprise I had. In a glass showcase, there was the original Sunburst Quilt that I had seen on the barn.

The story of this Sunburst Quilt says it is over 100 years old and was pieced by Elizabeth Newton Gibbs (grandmother of Stanley Gibbs) and completed by Emma Hull Gibbs (mother of Stanley) in the Gladie Cabin. The quilt has 18 pieced blocks and 17 plain blocks with a quilting pattern of parallel diagonal lines.

The quilt was given to Stanley Gibbs as a wedding present. The quilt migrated to California but eventually returned to its roots through a donation by the youngest sister of Stanley.

This sunburst quilt certainly made my day so I wanted to share it with other quilters - Judy.

Quilt Blocks - Starry Eyed

I am working on quilt blocks for a Christmas quilt gift.

The pattern is Starry Eyed by Angela Mitchell from Fussy Cuts. I'm just working on the star blocks so far. The stars are wonky and the fabric is by Wilmington Prints - Holiday Meadows by Pink Chandelier.

I'll keep you posted on my progress - Judy.

Snowmen Quilted Placemats

I started a new project this week for our quilting bazaar in November. I know it's a little early to start but lots of other projects could get in my way between now and November.

The top of placemat #1 is all I have completed. So lots more work to do on these quilted placemats.

The placemats are "Take Four" by Cary Flanagan with a copyright of 2008 Something Sew Fine Quilt Design. Here's a pic of the pattern:

You can see the pattern has horizontal strips and assembling; then vertical cuts and assembling. There is also shuffling of the strip stacks. There are four versions of placemats in the pattern; I'm making version two. The pattern is a bit confusing but fun to make.  I'll post more on my project as I progress.

Thanks for stopping in - Judy.
