April Tag for the 12 Tags of 2015

Wow,  thanks Tim for bring us new techniques with layered watercoloring, background spritzing, ribbon tinting and your beautiful new flower garden stamps. The sizzix word dies worked great for this tag and gave us more depth and texture. Here is Tim's April tag for the 12 Tags of 2015 that gave us so much inspiration.


I have completed my version of Tim's tag plus used another stamp from the flower garden CMS215 set to complete a second tag.

I followed Tim's steps and used the supplies he suggested except used a few different colors of the distress markers.

It's Time to Get Buggy

With warmer weather here, those pesky little critters are starting to make their appearance. Be on the lookout for them! So as I thumbed through my stamp binders, this fun set of stamps by Dylusions caught my eye. Monster Mash is a fun set of stamps and great for Halloween but I kept looking at the bugs in the set and thought they could be fun on a tag.



Challenge #26 is underway over at Linda Ledbetter's blog and it's all about Tim's Smudge stamping technique on page 42 of his Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3 book. To get the details of the technique just flip on over and take a look.







Here's my entry for the Challenge. I used the Smudge technique on the background (Tim explains the technique in his book). The background stamp I used is by Wendy Vecci Studio 490 - Old Wood Floor.

Masks were used on each of the critters and jar before I stamped the background. The bell jar lid was stamped, than a piece of packaging acetate was cut and Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint was applied twice with drying in between applications.

Steampunk Tag - remnant rub resist

There are so many of us who are inspired by the works of Tim Holtz. Not only do we love his creativity but we love to participate in challenges pertaining to his style.

I am entering two such challenges. One is the Compendiums of Curiosity 3 Challenge and the other is the A Vintage Journey Challenge.

Thanks to Linda Ledbetter and the CC3 team, Challenge 24 is underway and features Tim's Remnant Rubs from Idea-ology. You do need to own Tim's book to enter the Challenge. Turn to page 51 for the steps. He does have several remnant rubs to choose from, I selected his Elements rubs for my project. 

Over at A Vintage Journey, they are celebration their first year blog anniversary with a "Anything Tim" challenge. I think my tag will work just perfect for their challenge.

I followed Tin's steps pretty closely except I cut the rubs out and placed them on the sheet instead of laying the whole sheet on the tag. I'm loving his new remnant tool, it's so much easier to work with than the stick. 

Although you can't see them in this picture, I was able to add remnant rubs on top of rubs. I added the stars on top of the film strip. You can see it in the first picture below. Tim's rubs are a million times better than other rubs I used to try to use in the past (year's ago). Thanks Tim!

Here are a few close-up of my tag. You can see the stars rubbed on top of the film strip rub in the first image. Distress ink colors used are: tea dye, vintage photo, tumbled glass, and a smidge of evergreen bough. 

Stamps for the tag: 

Mercantile CMS 189 - the gentleman was stamped with jet black archival then a mask of him was added while my inking was done, I also added gathered twigs distress ink around him for added emphasis and to make him pop a little.

Graph and Croc CMS 185, the graph background was stamped with iced spruce distress ink, I'm so happy I used the graph stamp, seems to just have filled in the spaces.

The base of the light bulb was inked with Ranger teakwood alcohol ink and attached with wire from my stash. Distress paint on the word band and the paper string was tumbled glass and evergreen bough.

March Butterfly Tag - 12 Tags of 2015

It's time for another tag for the 12 tags of 2015. Tim's March tag is full of bright vivid colors. Take a look at his tag:

I made several background tags testing color combinations trying to find the colors that pleased my eye the most. Here's my finished product.

The final distress paint color combinations that I used include: worn lipstick, cracked pistachio, tumbled glass, evergreen bough, and I think there is a little broken china. Goodness, there are so many combinations that look fabulous together that you just can't go wrong. As Tim says, it is creating that takes your imagination to a place where you are free to explore, imagine and discover. 

I used Tim's flourish stencil and just love the way the flourishes sway and move in the design. Broken china distress powder was sprinkled over the texture paste quickly before it dried. I was patient and let it dry for a few hours before I touched it with the heat tool since Tim told us it could bubble if we used the heat tool too soon. Aqua alcohol ink was used on the stars that are scattered across the tag. Love the mirrored stars with the aqua ink. The spinner has a combination of evergreen bough and tumbled glass distress paint.

Always Believe - Lucky

Today, I have completed a tag for the Simon Says Monday Challenge: Just a Hint of Clover. So with thoughts of good luck and green, my tag is complete and ready to share.

The background of my tag features the splattered plaster technique by Wendy Vecchi. I recently saw the technique on Wendy's blog (Studio 490) and couldn't wait to try it. You must use rubbing alcohol to make it work correctly. So get a bottle ready if you would like to try the technique.

The flower was stamped in green then I dabbed some antique linen paint on my craft mat and misted it with water so it would be a thin wash of color. I didn't want to paint over my stamping lines and hide them. Gathered twigs  was applied along the edges of the flower and around the flower pieces in the middle. 

Love the heart charm from Tim's Heart Charm pieces.

February Tag for the 12 Tags of 2015

I have been so excited waiting to see what fabulous creation Tim has designed for the February tag. As always, I am so impressed by his creativity, take a look at his tag:

I've been busy working on my February tag. I am having knee replacement on Thursday so needed to get my tag done before it gets here. I usually like to take a day or more to finish a project, but no time to waste. Take a look:

A Book for Love Notes

Receiving or writing a Love Note is always so exciting especially when it comes from the heart.. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, it is the perfect time to create a book just for love notes. It only takes a minute or less to write a sweet note. Just a one-liner can let someone know how much they are loved. 

I created a home decor piece that is also a small notebook for writing love notes. This book could be placed on a stand so notes could be quickly written. Everyone will be checking the book daily looking for a special love note from the heart..

This was such a fun project to create. I had been so inspired by the work of Anita Houston and Annette Green when I saw projects they designed using this Rockstar stamp that I wanted to give it a try.
