The Sea is Calling Me - Distress Watercoloring Pt. 1

The Challenge at for Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 5 is Distress Watercoloring. I'm following Tim's technique on page 39 of his new book. Here's my project:

I stamped a combination of stamps with Black Archival Ink on watercolor paper. Then used Tim's Watercoloring Technique on p 39 of his book. The paper was torn along the edges and inked before being adhered to the corrugated cardboard which was painted with gesso TH broken china.

The watercolor paper and corrugated cardboard were mounted on a 5x7 canvas which was painted with Adirondack - pool and Ranger TH broken china for a finished project.

The lady was stamped a second time, watercolored then adhered with foam dots.

Watercoloring with Tim's technique was so much fun, I need to do this more often - Judy.

Nests and Birds - layering stencils and texture paste

I have had so much fun at my craft table today. I am not sure if it was the texture paste, the palette colors, the stencil, the paint or the paper but I have been a happy crafter all morning.

The paper used to cut the Postage Stamp die from Tim's Wallflower stash. Love this paper. I inked the edges with Distress Ink. Then mixed distress paint with the crackled texture paste and applied it over the TH bubbles stencil. The woodgrain stencil was used with gathered twigs distress ink. You can see a little of the woodgrain in the upper left corner next to the 1, 2, 3 from the school house stencil.

Speckles were stencils with TH evergreen bough ink on the base of the card then the edges of the card were also inked with evergreen bough. I rubbed evergreen bough on my craft sheet then spritzed it with waster and drug crinkles ribbon though the mixture. Love this color!

A few splatters from Tim's stencil were also added on the postage stamp frame. The bird nest and Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 were stamped with Black Archival Ink.

Happy crafting - Judy

Faux Tea Roses and a Picture Frame

For the Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 3, I am using Tim's Faux Tea Rose Technique from page 65 of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. #3.

My project began with a $2 frame that I found at a thrift shop.

I painted the frame with gesso then began stamping white tissue paper with several different Tim Holtz stamps.

The tissue was torn, glued on, and left to dry. Gilding wax was applied with my finger. A little vintage photo distress stain was also used.

Roses from TH Wallflower were fussy cut, stained with Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, and a little Vintage Photo then applied for added background depth. The tea roses were also cut from the Wallflower stack then stained with the same distress ink colors. The paper already had a lot of depth but I still applied stains to the edges.

The roses and clock were a perfect fit in the upper arch of the frame.

There you have it, tea roses from p65 for the challenge - Judy
