Faux Tea Roses and a Picture Frame

For the Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 3, I am using Tim's Faux Tea Rose Technique from page 65 of A Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. #3.

My project began with a $2 frame that I found at a thrift shop.

I painted the frame with gesso then began stamping white tissue paper with several different Tim Holtz stamps.

The tissue was torn, glued on, and left to dry. Gilding wax was applied with my finger. A little vintage photo distress stain was also used.

Roses from TH Wallflower were fussy cut, stained with Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, and a little Vintage Photo then applied for added background depth. The tea roses were also cut from the Wallflower stack then stained with the same distress ink colors. The paper already had a lot of depth but I still applied stains to the edges.

The roses and clock were a perfect fit in the upper arch of the frame.

There you have it, tea roses from p65 for the challenge - Judy

  6. Judy....Beautiful job on this thrift shop frame!! Great idea to use gesso as your background. All of your stamping on the white tissue paper and then adding it to your frame looks fantastic! The black and white is eye catching and also very elegant. Your addition of your gorgeous faux tea roses and the little metal elements perfectly finishes off your frame. LOVE IT! Love the picture of Cooper, too! He's absolutely adorable. Thanks for sharing this lovely piece with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
