October Finishes

Mini Maple Leaf Quilt

Making a 12 in quilt to hang in my entry from the free maple leaf pattern by Sew Much Moore was an easy project. The fabric was from a friend's stash.

Veteran Lap Quilt

This quilt wasn't complete made by me; at one of our monthly quilt guild meetings, a friend laid an orphan block on the give-a-way table that she didn't need. I thought I could add a big border and make it into a veteran's lap quilt. I added the red border, batting, backing and quilted the quilt. A free-motion feather design was used. Plus, I had never done free-motion feathers before, so it was a learning experience for me.

Santa and Friends Wall Hanging

I saw this Santa panel and it reminded me of a Fitz and Floyd Santa statue I received as a Christmas gift several years ago.  The F&F Santa is surrounded by a fox, rabbit, birds, and a polar bear.

I had that is often the used the Santa on my sideboard in the dining room or the dining room table. The panel was ordered and quilted with snowflakes and lots of free motion quilting to hang on the wall behind the sideboard.

That's it for October Finishes. I'm sewing and quilting like crazy with several Christmas gifts to finish.

Also, my Thanksgiving cacti are blooming? There is a deep red one and a bright pinking one blooming. They are in the same pot for now.

Here's a pic showing the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter cacti if you can't tell the difference. I have referred back to this pic several times.

Happy sewing and quilting to you - Judy.

September Finishes

For the month of September, I completed two pillows for my hearth and am happy I used some fabric that I have had for a couple of years.

The first pillow is a pumpkin pillow from the pattern Pumpkin Party by Primrose Cottage Quilts.

I bought the fabric a few years back and decided it was time to make the pillow. The pattern was for a table topper, but I wanted to make a pillow for my hearth. Different free motion designs were used on each of the pumpkins, flying geese, and background spaces.

The second pillow was a free maple leaf quilt block from Sew Much Moore. I ordered a small fat quarter bundle from their store to make the blocks.

I made four of the same blocks in different colors of fall fabric and added a checked sashing between the blocks. Free motion veining was used on each leaf and

Here's the pillows on my hearth.

I have a gorgeous dahlia in bloom this week.

Another is soon to open.

Thanks for stopping by to see my September Finishes and my dahlias. Happy sewing and quilting - Judy.

Spring and Summer Finishes

I haven't made a post in a while but have been piecing and quilting somewhat. Although gardening and boating get in the way of summer quilting, I have a few projects to share.

Tapestry Quilt

I took a Tapestry class at the Paducah Quilt Show in the spring and finished by project a few weeks later. Each of the flowers were fussy cut before sewing them on the background fabric. All done in free motion. Fabrics were Tula Pink. The class was an all-day one, and I didn't finish in class and spent several more hours at home quilting the tapestry.

Each of the flowers were fussy cut before sewing them on the background fabric. All done in free motion. I laid the flowers out at home to get an idea of just how many flowers to fussy cut. There was quite a bit of prep work before the class.

Blue Bird Quilt

My version of Follow the Blue Bird Quilt by Riley Blake. I used the pieced block for the bird.

Fabrics were from the Hush Hush line and other Riley Blake fabrics.

A throw for our boat designed with
boating/beach fabric.

I quilted this quilt in the hoop.

From My Gardens:

I have spent lots of time in my gardens over the spring and summer and will share a couple of blooms with you.

I've been growing dahlias for two years and just love them.

Swallowtail butterflies enjoy the lantana blooms.

Hummers

I'm happy to report, we still have hummingbirds visiting out feeders. They will be leaving soon!

Thanks for stopping by and happy quilting - Judy.

Mystery Block 3 and February Finishes

Our quilt guild Mystery Quilt continues with Block 3 for February.

Block 3 - Juneau

Flying Geese

Other February Finishes:

We planned a trip in February to visit friends in San Diego so I needed a gift to take my longtime friend, Debbie Hill. The two designs on the pillow were from my Baby Lock Solaris machine.

My version of Love Blooms, pattern by Jillily Studio

I gave you a peek at this project in January and now it is complete. It was my first attempt at free motion quilting on a plain white background fabric so for every good stitch, there are lots of not-so-good stiches. But I figured I just had to dive in and give it a try.

I did some free motion on my Tiger throws and Starry Night throw, but it was free motion around the designs on the panels. So I am very much a novice at free motion but hope to keep improving.

I have my Love Blooms quilt hanging in my sewing room along with a couple other heart wall hangings I have made over the past few years.

Paper Pieced Hearts Mini Quilt

I stitched a small paper piecing project that The Seasoned Quilter featured on her blog.

I haven't done much paper piecing, so I appreciated this easy pattern. I stitched four hearts, sewed them together, added boarders, quilted the four hearts in the hoop, then used a continuous boarder option on my Baby Lock Solaris.

Binding and a sleeve were added to make a mini wall hanging.

Here's a peak at what's happening in my sewing room that I hope to finish in March.

Stop back later to see if I get this new project finished. See ya next time and happy quilting - Judy.

Mystery Quilt and January Finishes

Our local Quilt Lovers of Murray, KY, started a Mystery Quilt in January. We made two blocks in January that I can share with you.

Block 1 - Gold Rush

I decided to make the 12-inch block size.

Working on the first block.

My fabrics are from the Riley Blake Quilt Fair Collection. I decided to use the blues, pinks, and greens from the collection.

Block 2 - Kansas Star

Valentine Mug Rug for a friend's birthday.

I have Block 3 of the Mystery Quilt finished but it will be featured in my February finishes.

I'll give you a peek at an applique project that I'll finish in February too.

There you have it, and now you know what's been going on in my sewing room. Take care and happy sewing and quilting - Judy.

December Finishes

Another piecing and quilting year has come to an end. I do have a few December projects for 2022 to share.

UFO Completed

A UFO from the past was completed. I attended a workshop soon after I purchased my Babylock Solaris (a few years back) on stitching line-art from coloring book pages.

The coloring book page was scanned and stitched out in the workshop but that was as far as I got. It was not finished until now. I decided to do some free motion quilting on the project after adding some borders then binding and it would be finished.

I really have no good reasoning why I hadn't finished the project, it just got put on the back burner.

Another small December finish was a rug mug done in the hoop. This project was done in a zoom class with a local quilt shop. I needed a small gift, and this worked perfect.

Circles were used for the quilting fill then skewed to look like pebbles.

Other Christmas projects embroidered were a tea towel and a Christmas pillow. I made eight other different Christmas tea towels for gifts but forgot to take pictures.

Sewing and Embroidering With My Grandsons

For the past few years, I have spent a day with my grandsons right before Christmas and we work on sewing and embroidery gifts for their Mom (my daughter). This year it took two days (I loved it) because of their schedules. This year, they made rope coasters and a tea towel. We also spent part of a day baking Hello Dollies.

I hope they learn a little each year about sewing. They don't complain so I hope they enjoy the projects. We had my Crescendo and Solaris going on the second day to keep them both busy.

Tiger Quilts Finished

My second tiger throw was finished just in time for Christmas. The first one was completed in November.

The Christmas Quilt

The Christmas quilt I finished in November was gifted to my daughter. She was very surprised and loved it!

There you have it, my December finishes. Thanks for stopping by - Judy.

PS - I haven't gotten to sew a stitch so far in January. My husband and I both tested positive for Covid over New Year's weekend. Luckily, we are having mild cases.

My One Month Goal is to make Block 1 of a Mystery Quilt that my local guild is starting this month.
