Christmas Package Tags for Pocket Pages - Challenge 18

Challenge 18 of the Compendiums of Curiousity 3 is just what I needed to organize all the package tags I love to make for my Christmas gifts. Thanks to Linda Ledbetter and the Curiosity Crew for making this challenge possible and their fabulous project ideas to share with us. 

Yes, I love to make special tags to go on each and every one of my Christmas gifts and now I have a place to store them as they are created. This Challenges comes from page 36 of Tim's book and you need one to take part in the challenge.

Here's a peek at my pocket pages which are part of my Christmas Wishes book. I made this page a flip out page following Tim's directions in the book.

Another pocket page was used with flip up tags. The red tag with the wreath is the flip down tag. The second picture are the flip up tags The black glittered ornament is on a wiggle spring so it moves when touched. 

An issue for me is many of my tags are over-sized and won't fit into the pocket pages so I decided to alter the pocket pages a bit.

The gingerbread die is so cute but when placed on a tag, won't fit into the pocket pages. My solution was to add two strips of paper to the outside of the pocket pages using two-sided tape. In the second picture, you can see how easy the tag slides in under the strips of paper. 

I used the same idea on the back side of the pocket page. Strips of music paper were added to the outside of the pocket pages. Now the tag slides under the two strips of paper.

Another issue for me are all of the smaller tags I make not fitting just right. The solution was to slit  the top layer of the pocket page to form an opening for those smaller tags. I did insert a thick piece of coated paper into the pocket page so I wouldn't cut through both layers. Then attached a piece of Tim's film to the pocket page with two-sided tape then added ribbon, industrial stickers, Christmas rub-ons and a wreath.

Now thanks to the pocket pages, I have the perfect place to store all of my Christmas gift tags - Judy.

December tag for the 12 Tag of 2014

The December tag of Tim Holtz is just beautiful. I love the prancing deer die and purchased it before the December tag came out. Here's a glance at Tim's tag:

After much thought about which die to use on my tag, I decided to go with the layered snowflake die and matching texture fade. I think it is fabulous that there are texture fades to match the dies.

My snowflake does have lots of clear rock candy applied but the picture doesn't do it justice. 

Here's my take on Tim's tag:

Love the holiday words on the snowflake and the new film. It's great to use the film with the snowfall texture fade. Tim's distress inks in the blues for beautiful on the snowflake too.

Birthday Card - Graphic 45 Couture

I had inspiration today from a card I saw on Pinterest using Graphic 45 Couture paper. The card is for a friend and I hope she likes it.

My take on this project is a Christmas picture frame blessed with Christmas goodness. Take a look:

The frame measures about 8.5 by 11 so could easily be used in a wooden or metal picture frame. I can see family pictures being used in the cabinet card frame over the years.

This project was so fun and now I have something ready to use for Christmas 2014 - Judy.

November Tag - 12 tags of 2014

Here is a look at Tim's fabulous tag for November with so much "fallness" to it. 

One great thing about creating the 12 tags is it gives me a chance to use his latest products plus learn new techniques. Thanks Tim!!


For my take on his November tag, I followed his steps closely plus I love using corrugated cardboard for projects so I really enjoyed this one. Oh well, I enjoy them all even without cardboard!!

I couldn't resist playing with the cut out of the leaf and adding a little goodness to it.

Christmas Ornaments for Scrapbooking

Oh, I am already thinking about Christmas and scrapbook pages. I always enjoy adding handmade items and tags for my pages. 

The ornaments are added to the upper right corner of the page and are from the TH Mini Blueprints 5 CMS 170 set with lots of distress glitter added for sparkle. Christmas means lots of sparkle to me!! The stencil is TH Hollybough. Wow, I am so happy I have something ready for my Christmas 2014 scrapbook pages - Judy!

Spread Your Wings and Fly

Do you like things that fly? Well then you might enjoy a challenge with bugs, bees, and butterflies. I am entering a big tag that features butterflies. Take a look:

I used a big tag so I could give the butterflies lots of room to fly. They were cut from pages of an old book so they are very delicate. Their edges are inked with vintage photo.

The tag is filled with lots of encouragement to spread your wings and fly.

Riding on Wings - Colored Crackle, CCC3, C14

Each dragonfly is giving a small fairy a ride on its wings.

The Harvest - framed distress watercolor

I been working on a new project today with watercolor. I learned the technique from Tim Holtz' book,  A Compendium of Curiosities Volumne III. 

No, I am not a Vincent van Gogh but I still find the distress watercolor interesting and fun. Here's my project.

The stamp is by Stampin Up and was stamped with archival ink then water-colored with TH distress markers and a watercolor pen. 

I'll share a few pics of the progress. The frame was cut from cardboard and embossed using the Textured Leaf folder. I did apply distress ink to the folder before I embossed. I didn't want the frame to overpower the stamped image of the project so I used a very light stoke of watercolor on the leaves. 

The leaf attached in the lower left corner of the frame was cut from corrugated cardboard using the Layered Leaf die. TH distress paint was then applied by dabbing it on to get down in the crevices. 


Another option could have been to cut some from cardboard or grunge board then emboss them with the Layered Leaf embossing folder but I wanted something a little different and decided to go with the corrugated cardboard. 

The "harvest" stamp is from Ali Edwards and was stamped on a piece from TH tattered banners. A little vintage photo distress ink was inked on the edges of the banner. The acorn and branch are pieces from Maya Road Autumn Mini Chipboard Set. The acorn chipboard needed some detail so I used the acorn stamp from TH Mini Blueprints CMS 136 and stamped right on top of the acorn chipboard piece then water-colored it.

Trick or Treat - 12 Tags of 2014 - October

Tim Holtz has done it again with his October Tag for the 12 Tags of 2014. Look how cool Tim's tag on the right looks!


Halloween is one of my very favorite holidays. It's such a fun day and night for everyone whether you are passing out the candy or going Trick or Treating with the little ones. I love making projects for this special night and it was so fun to make this tag and get to use the Distress Spray Stains plus so many of Tim's idea-ology elements.

Hidden Drawers of Halloween Fun - CC3 C11

Challenge 11 for Tim's Compendium of Curiosity 3 is going on over at Linda Ledbetter's blog. This challenge is on Effect Powders from p52 of Tim's book. If you don't have a copy, you can order an autographed one here. 

Here's my project for the Challenge:

I am such a fan of Halloween that a project like this one is just "drawers" of fun for me!  I used the Match Box large die of Tim's from Sizzix to make the five drawers from the TH Laboratories Paper Stash. Love that the paper is double-sided, it made a great lining for the inside of each drawer.

Powders were used on the pumpkin, happy Halloween banners, the harlequin cover for the assembled match box drawers, the spider web, and the key in the bottom drawer. The vile in the bottom drawer has loose poison (UTEE) inside. 

Two pieces were cut from the TH Sizzix Lattice Die and the effect powders were used.

A gear was added to the side of the pumpkin's head. Then the lattice was cut into pieces.
Two pieces were cut and used to form the metal-like bent arms for the pumpkin coming out the sides of the second drawer. 

Two more pieces extending from the third drawer form the legs of the pumpkin. 



There are two metal-like feet extending from the bottom of the last drawer. 


You can see part of the key extending from that drawer too. 

The little owl & pumpkin are mounted on gears and the lion is adhered under TH charm fragments and tied on with TH string. 






A shot from the side of the drawers shows the token hanging from the lattice.

There you have it - Hidden Drawers of Halloween Fun.

September Tag 2014 - A New Fall Dress

It's time for the September 2014 Tag over at Tim Holtz.com.  Here's a look at Tim's tag and it is stunning. Such an interesting technique with alcohol inks this month. 

I have my tag ready to share with you. 

Fall is just about here and the Fall colors are always so gorgeous. 

You know, every girl needs a new dress for the Fall. To make the dress, I used a stamp from the Visual Artistry Stampers Anonymous Seamless Experience stamp collection. 

Then,  I got wild with alcohol inks and the Autumn Gatherings decorative strip. Wow, that was fun. I followed Tim's steps carefully since using the Alcohol Ink Cardstock was new for me.








Here's a pic of my background for the tag before the stamping and leaves. I used the Measured THS012 stencil and citrus alcohol ink. I used several pieces of the alcohol ink cardstock trying to find a good color. I remember Tim said to use a light color but I didn't have the lake mist he was featuring. 










Then the image was stamped. The leaves were made and layered from the bottom up so each layer could have a little "fluff" and curling of the edges.










In making the leaves, all I could think about were the vibrant colors of Fall, using the oranges, yellows, reds of alcohol inks worked great. Love, love the colors. The Copper Mixatives gave the palette a big boost.

A few extra leaves were attached to the hanger in case they were needed. 

It could get windy!!
